The Shining Hour

Bluegrass & Country Folk

The Shining Hour is a three piece Brisbane based band featuring Nadia Sunde on vocals, Paul Henderson on banjo and guitar and Marcus Church on guitar and vocals. They write and perform modern bluegrass music deeply rooted in a sense of place and drawing inspiration from people's experience of the natural world, life, death and love.

Formed in 2022 the band are focused on creating new works with a view to recording a full length album of original songs in late 2023. In January 2023 they finished recording their single 'Hope Floats'. In March 2023 they will be touring their cabaret concert 'Blue Bayou' to audiences across Queensland, presented by Red Chair and with support from Touring Queensland.

Nadia Sunde

Vocalist, songwriter & lyricist

An acclaimed singer, songwriter and theatre artist, Nadia is the recipient of several Queensland Music Awards, an International Songwriting Competition Award and an APRA Art Music Award for a collaborative project with Linsey Pollak (OAM). Nadia recently retired from large scale collaborative theatre works in order to focus on her passion for composition, bluegrass and her band 'The Shining Hour'.

Paul Henderson

Banjo, guitar & songwriter

A jazz trained professional guitarist with over 25 years of experience, Paul has spent the last few years dedicated to his mastery of the banjo, continuing his study online with world renowned banjo player, Noam Pikelny and in masterclass with Bela Fleck. He is active in both the jazz and bluegrass communities in Brisbane, Australia and also enjoys playing world, folk, and classical music. He performs regularly with Estampa, Kelsey Giarola, Brisbane Jazz Orchestra, and The Shining Hour. 

Marcus Church

Guitar, vocals, songwriter

A recent graduate from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Marcus Church is a talented acoustic guitarist who has quickly made a name for himself in the Australian bluegrass scene. Marcus regularly performs in the Haystack Mountain Hermits, the Shining Hour, and the Inadequates. Each of these groups has allowed him to showcase his unique sound, skill and passion for bluegrass, earning him a dedicated following of fans and admirers.
